Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 33 cm for a weight of 160 g. Stiff and erect black feathers on forehead. Bright yellow eyes. Black head and breast with white markings around eyes. Rest of plumage white with dark blue wings and tail.
Range and habitat
The species occurs on the eastern coast of South-America, west of Andes, from south-west Ecuador to North-west Peru. Found from dry woodlands to humid cloud forest, from sea level to 2600 m.

Status : Restricted-range species, uncommon to locally common. Some populations have declined because of habitat loss.
