Identification
Small sunbird reaching 11 cm in length and a weight of 9 g. Relatively short slightly decurved bill. Male with iridescent green and blue plumage, iridescent red cheeks, orange breast and yellow belly. Female is olive green with yellow belly.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to Peninsular Malaysia, from Perak state. Species found from east India and South China to Greater Sundas. Lives in forests and their edges, mangroves, plantations, gardens, to 1000 m.

Status : The species has a huge range and can adapt well to living in suburban areas. It is often trapped on Indonesian islands for the trade.
