Identification
Adults can grow to 20 cm in length for a weight of 36 g. Plumage mostly dull brown with yellow-olive tinge on wings, upper-tail and flanks. Belly with light yellow tinge, breast clearer. Grey, black and white streaks on cheeks.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Malayan Peninsula to Sumatra, Java and western Borneo. Species found in Malaysia, Java, Sumatra, Borneo and nearby islands. Lives from forest edges to mangroves, coastal scrub, urban gardens, to 1300 m.

Status : The species is common to abundant and can live in modified habitats, including urban gardens (such as in Singapore).
