Identification
Adults can grow to 20 cm in length. Plumage dark olive-brown, more golden on back, darker on breast, white belly, yellow rump, orange markings on head. Subspecies with bigger and brighter orange markings, golden edge to flight feathers.
Range and habitat
Species endemic to Indonesia and found in Sumatra, Java and Bali. This subspecies occurs in central and south Sumatra, and western Java. Lives around the edges of primary forests, tall second growth, from 800 to 3000 m.

Status : The species prefers high altitude forests and its habitat remains relatively safe at this time. It faces intense trapping pressure all around its range.
