Identification
Adults can grow to 21,5 cm in length. Black bill, black and brown crest. Plumage mostly brown with rich chestnut brown back, darker wings and tail. White throat, light grey breast and belly. Subspecies with white-grey fringes on wings.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in South China and north-east Vietnam. Species also found in north Vietnam and on Hainan Island (China). Lives in broadleaf evergreen forests, forest edges and woodlands, to 1000 m.

Status : The species is very common and its range seems to be expanding. It is even found in big cities as long as resources remain.
