Identification
Short and round ear tufts, heart-shaped facial disk with dark-edged beige forehead and light facial disk. Chestnut brown wings with white dots, grey-brown underside with black dots on flanks.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Greater Sundas and east Philippines. Found in forests, landwards edges of mangroves, dense foliage areas of woodlands, to 2300 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is globally uncommon and often overlooked. It occurs in protected areas and can adapt to degraded habitats. Deforestation and catching for the trade are long term threats.
