Identification
This species reaches 40 cm in length for a weight of 242 g. Long black tail, black wings with white spots. Rest of plumage white with dirty black areas on breast and behind eyes. Pink eyering and throat pouch, yellow bill with dark edges.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Southern Africa, from Namibia to Mozambique, northern and eastern South Africa. Other subspecies found in south Angola and north Namibia. Lives in semi desert areas in savannas, woodlands and trees along rivers.

Status : The species remains quite common in its range and can adapt to habitat modifications as long as suitable nesting trees remain.
