Identification
Unmistakable, very high squarish red casque, pointed bill with yellow tip. Black-brown plumage with white belly, undertail and thighs. Very long tail. Female with lilac bare skin on neck.

Range and habitat
Southeast Asia, from south Thailand and south Myanmar to Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. Found in foothills primary rainforests, rarely selectively logged forests, to 1500 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has declined catastrophically in all of its range because of habitat loss (deforestation) and intensification of traffic (mostly for the species’ bill). Not bred under human care. The species is an important conservation targets for the ASAP and ZSL’s Edge programs.
