Identification
Black plumage with buffy-white tail, white sides of neck and buff-yellow throat. Female has blue throat pouch and yellow bill, male has bright red casque, yellow and orange corrugated bill.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from south Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. Found exclusively in extensive tracts of tall lowland evergreen forests and coastal swamp forests.

Status : This species is declining alarmingly and possibly extinct in many parts of its range because of its specific habitat requirements. Remains very rarely bred in aviculture.
