Identification
The species can reach 70 cm in length for a weight of 2.1 kg. Black plumage with brown and white speckling on neck. Females have rufous crest and light brown bill. Male has black crest and bill and tall white casque. Blue throat pouch.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in western and west-central Africa as disjunct populations, from Senegal to Cameroon. Lives in primary lowland evergreen forests and nearby plantations, to 1000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is declining at an alarming pace because of habitat destruction and overhunting for the bushmeat trade. Still locally common.
