Identification
Adults can reach 45 cm in length for a weight of 800 g. Plumage shiny black except from belly and thighs which are white. Subspecies with distinctive dark grey to black bill with small casque. Conspicuous corrugations on sides of bill and casque. Blue skin around eyes.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Western Africa, from Senegal to Nigeria, east to the river Niger. Lives in evergreen forests, woodlands, mangrove forests and plantations, to 600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species remains at least locally common and occurs in many protected areas. Vulnerable to deforestation and disturbance by creation of dams.
