Identification
Adults can reach 1.05 m in length for 3.4 kg. Unmistakable. Most plumage black. Yellowish neck and back of head, white thighs and tail with black band. Black face, huge yellowish bill with flat casque. Female has clear iris.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in southern Asia, from southern Himalayas and south India to south China, southwards to Malaysia and Sumatra. Mostly occurs in primary evergreen forest, up to 2000 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has a large range but is globally declining, especially in India and Sumatra. Habitat loss and hunting are the main causes for decline.
