Identification
Total length of 55 cm for a weight of 920 g. Plumage almost entirely shiny black except for white tail. Bill and casque horn-colored with a black base on lower mandible. Bare white skin around eyes and throat. Male has bigger casque.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Philippines and can be found on Calamian Islands, Balabac and Palawan. Lives in primary and secondary forests, sometimes swamps, up to 900 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is highly threatened by clearing of forests around its range. Occurs in protected areas but the law isn’t always enforced.
