Identification
Body length of 1,52 m, weight of 5,7 kg. Grey-white plumage with black flight feathers. Indistinct blotches on neck and head. Cream eye-ring, grey face skin. Bill pinkish with black spots on upper mandible. Shaggy short crest on nape.
Range and habitat
The species occurs patchily in southern Asia, in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar (likely extirpated), Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and on Sumatra (Indonesia). Lives in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, marshes with large trees needed for nesting.

Status : The species is more and more vulnerable to loss of habitat (nesting sites and feeding grounds) and locally to overhunting and pollution.
