Identification
The species can grow to 68 cm in length, weight unknown. Plumage mostly dark brown, black wings with strong blue iridescence. Head and collar featherless. Black face, bright red warty skin on crown and nape. Horn-colored bill.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in southern Asia, from south-east Pakistan to most of India, south Nepal and parts of Bangladesh. Lives in dry grassy areas, cultivated lands, often far from wetlands.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still common in protected areas but strongly declining in areas affected by wetland conversion, mostly for agriculture.
