Identification
Adults can reach 26 cm in length for a weight of 300 g. Red eyering and legs. Male has black plumage with green and purple iridescence, bright red crest, white crown. Female has green plumage with reddish wings and grey head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, from south Myanmar and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo (including some inshore islands nearby). Lives in evergreen forests, humid logged forests, in lowlands and foothills to 1550 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix III
Status : The species is getting rare in most parts of its range because of deforestation and loss of habitat. Trapping for the trade isn’t a big threat at present.
