Identification
Adults can grow to 69 cm in length for a weight of 1.3 kg. Small head with white skin around eyes, white cere on bill, large dark blue wattle. White crest. Bright red legs. Plumage is glossy black with white spotting on breast and wings.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from south Venezuela, Guianas and extreme north Brazil to Colombia, south to Peru and north Bolivia. Lives in humid and gallery forests, close to rivers, up to 1100 meters.

Status : The species is locally common when habitat is undisturbed and hunting pressure kept to a minimum. Illegal hunting has caused declines locally.
