Identification
Powerful hooked black bill. White eyebrows and cheek patches, violet flight feathers, reddish-brown wings, white streaks on cheeks and breast. Subspecies with rufous-brown breast color.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from south Mauritania and Senegal to Eritrea, Somalia and north Tanzania. Found in open savanna woodlands, arid savannas, farmlands, to 3000 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : Species locally common to abundant in places, sparse in others. Populations trends still poorly understood and understudied at this time, for both subspecies.
