Identification
Total length of 30 cm for a weight of 178 g. Big head with powerful black bill. Head and breast beige, back and upper wings blackish brown, wings, belly and tail bright royal blue. Elongated tail feathers.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western and Central Africa from Senegal and Gambia to Central African Republic. It lives in woodlands, near savannas or grasslands, often near edges of humid forest.

Status : The species seems fairly common to locally abundant. Local declines in populations are caused by destruction of its preferred habitat.
