Identification
The species grows to 25 cm in length for a weight of 100 g, female heavier than male. Long black bill with yellow part on lower mandible. Plumage white with blue wings, greenish-blue back and cap. Black mask on face, white lores.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Myanmar to central Thailand, east to Vietnam. Species found from northeast African coasts to New Guinea and Palau. Lives in coastal areas, in mangroves, nearby cultivated areas and parks, to 1500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is very widespread and locally abundant. Some insular subspecies have very small populations and are threatened by habitat loss.
