Identification
Adults can reach a size of 1.10 meters for a weight of 4.2 kg. Plumage is globally white except from black flight feathers. Bright red legs and naked skin around face. Yellow eyes. Silvery grey long and thick bill, sometimes reddish at tip.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from east Colombia to Guianas and north Brazil, then from Bolivia and Central Brazil to central Argentina. Lives in freshwater wetlands, floodplains and grassy pastures.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still locally common, especially in Pantanal and Chaco areas. Declines noted in northern parts of range because of habitat loss.
