Identification
Large eagle reaching 96 cm in body length for a wingspan of 2.37 m and a weight of 6.2 kg. Powerful yellow bill, yellow legs. Plumage mostly dark brown, white tail and white head and neck. This subspecies the largest of the two.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Alaska to Canada and central USA. Migrates to south USA and Mexico. Species also found from Arizona to Florida. Lives in coasts, large river banks and estuaries around a wide range of habitats.

Status : The species’ northern populations are stable but they’re rapidly declining because of pollution, persecution and loss of habitat in the south.
