Identification
Fairly large passerine bird reaching 38 cm in length for a weight of 359 g. Unmistakable. Plumage greyish-black with light grey wings. Black head with thick bill and grey eyering. Large bluish folded bare-skin area on neck, smaller for females.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, around the Amazon river basin from south-east Colombia and south Venezuela to central Brazil and Bolivia. Lives in forests, near river banks and lakes, flooded forests, up to 600 meters.

Status : The species remains fairly common in the wild and regularly seen in flocks along river banks. Rarer in Guianas. Occurs in many protected areas.
