Notes :No subspecies known. Formerly treated as a subspecies of E. musica, formerly placed in genus Euphonia.

Identification
Adults can reach up to 10 cm in length for a weight of 18.5 g. Thick and short grey bill. Male has golden yellow lower breast, belly, back and forehead. Bright blue nape and crown. Rest of plumage dark blue, female is duller.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Caribbean islands, off Central America, and is endemic to Puerto Rico. Lives in dry to wet forests, always with mistletoes, from lowlands to high mountains.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is classified as restricted range. It is locally common and occurs in a few protected areas. Threats like collection for the pet trade and habitat loss need to be monitored, given the species’ very small range.
