Identification
Adults are 10 cm in length for a weight of 16.5 g. Bill longer and thicker than most Euphonia. Male has clear yellow forehead and forecrown, chin, throat, flanks and belly. Rest of plumage dark blue. Female dull green.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central and south America, from Costa Rica to Colombia, east to Venezuela, south to Bolivia and central west Brazil. Subspecies found in east Bolivia and nearby southwest Brazil. Lives in plantations, open woodlands, gallery forests, forest edges, to 2400 m.

Status : The species is globally common to abundant and seem to be facing no known threats despite lack of legal protection of habitats within its range.
