Identification
Body length of 45 cm, tail length of 60 cm, weight of 3.6 kg. Very thick fur, long and bushy tail. Face is black with white hair-tufts around cheeks. Pelage white except on breast, back of flanks, inside of hindlimbs and tail for this subspecies.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in central eastern Madagascar, from Anove River to Mananjary. Species also occurs in the north-eastern regions of Madagascar. Lives in tropical moist lowland and montane forests, up to 1300 meters.

Status : The species has a very small fragmented range. It is still heavily hunted in some areas and its ranges is reduced by slash-and-burn agriculture.
