Identification
Adults can reach a carapace length up to 21 cm, female being much bigger than males. Carapace dark grey to almost black with faint round markings. Intricate orange and yellow line and spots pattern on head and neck.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in North America and is endemic to Texas, being found in the Colorado River drainage system. Lives in slow-moving and shallow rivers with rocky and gravely bottom.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a very small range, occurring in a single river. It is legally protected and is thought to be at least locally abundant.
