Identification
The species can reach a maximum length of 1.70 m. Slender body, head barely distinct from body. Unmistakable. Grey with red dots on flank scales. Black blotches with bright yellow center on back. Yellow chevron markings on head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia, from extreme east India to Myanmar, Lao, northern half of Vietnam, south-central and north-east China. Lives in tropical and temperate forests, grasslands and shrublands, up to 1600 m.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range and remains globally uncommon. It may be vulnerable to habitat loss and over-collection for animal trade.
