Identification
Adults can reach 11 cm in length for a weight of 13 g. Male is bright turquoise blue with white belly, black wings and back, black band from forehead to nape. Female is olive-green, lighter colored on belly. Yellow eyes.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from Colombia to Venezuela and Guianas, south to Bolivia, and south-central Brazil. Lives in tropical humid forest, gallery forests, open woodlands, up to 1400 m.

Status : The species remains fairly common in most of its range. Some areas are still unprotected but the species isn’t considered to be at risk.
