Identification
Adults can reach a length of 53 cm for a weight of 670 g. Long wings and graduated tail. Bill moderately thin. Plumage is globally black with blue, violet and purple iridescence. Juveniles have clear eyes.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in south USA, from South-east Arizona to South Texas, and in northern and central Mexico. Lives in short grass prairies and desert grassland with scattered shrubs and trees.
