Identification
Very large raven reaching 56 cm in length and a weight of 1.1 kg. Plumage entirely shiny black with slight blue iridescence on wing feathers and a conspicuous white area on nape. Huge bill with strongly arched culmen.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in eastern and southern Africa, from Uganda and east Kenya to eastern and southern South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho. Lives in grasslands, gorges, rocky outcrops on hilly terrain, from 1000 to 3000 m.

Status : The species is at least locally common to abundant but has been declining in Kenya because of consumption of poisoned carcasses.
