Identification
Adults can reach 18 cm in length for 55 g. Female brown with dark spots on breast and belly. Male has Black tail and flight feathers. Rest of plumage is dark blue with black spots. Throat, breast and belly dark purple-violet.

Range and habitat
The species lives in south America from extreme east Colombia to south Venezuela, Guianas and North-east Brazil. Also in north-east Peru. Lives in canopy of humid rainforests up to 800 meters.

Status : The species is very poorly known from the wild. It is supposed to be uncommon to rare in most of its range. Occurs in protected areas.
