Identification
Adults can reach up to 8.9 cm in length. Large mouth. Upper back and face bluish-grey with vertical black bar on head. Flanks yellow to orange with 4 broad vertical black bars. Black area on tail peduncle. Yellow spots on anal fin.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in eastern Africa and is endemic to Lake Victoria, in Tanzania and Kenya. Found over firm sandy and rocky substrates, in the littoral zone.

Status : The species has a restricted range and is mostly threatened by hybridization with other species.
