Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 18 cm. Laterally compressed body, elongated snout, large curved dorsal fin. Grey face, rest of body is yellow-white with two large vertical and oblique black bands on flanks. Yellow dorsal and caudal fins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Western Indian Ocean, in the Red Sea and around Gulf of Aden. Mostly found in coral reef slopes, from 3 to 50 meters.

Status : The species remains common in its range despite of coral reef degradations. It is not believed to be strongly dependant on coral.
