Identification
Adults can reach a diameter of at least 10 cm. Smooth-surfaced oval-shaped shell, dorsally flattened. Pincers are very large and broad, with black tips. Coloration is mostly bright red to reddish-brown with white dots on front part of shell.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Indonesia, New Caledonia. Lives in coastal areas, rubble and coral reefs, down to at least 30 meters.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species hasn’t been assessed on the Red List. It seems to be fairly common to locally abundant and isn’t threatened.
