Identification
This species is very large, reaching up to 12 cm in length. Huge triangular head with wide mouth. Skin is warty and has longitudinal ridges. Coloration ranges from dark olive-green to brown with dark blotches. Clear belly.

Range and habitat
The species is found in South-east Asia, from South and south-east China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Hainan to Indochina, south to southern Thailand. Lives in wet areas in pools, ponds, marshes, paddy fields, canals.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species remains globally common throughout its range despite of the competition with introduced American bullfrog. Not threatened but declining because of unsustainable trapping for human consumption, pollution and other factors.
