Identification
Adults can reach up to 76 cm in length with males bigger than females. Juveniles are nearly black, adults are grey to whitish-grey and usually mottled. Males have big dorsal crests with alternating black and white spines.

Range and habitat
This species is found in Central America and endemic to the island of Utila, in the Bay Islands, off Honduras. Lives in mangrove forests and open beachfront areas.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is endemic to a single Island and its total range is less than 10 km². Suffers from over-collection and habitat fragmentation.
