Identification
Body length of 58 cm, tail length of 55 cm, weight of 7.2 kg. Large head with small round ears and elongated nose. Short limbs and long ringed tail. Fur color ranges from rufous-brown to olive-brown with darker feet.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to the mountains of Peru. The species occurs in South America, from Colombia and Guianas to Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil and north Argentina. Lives in many types of forests, woodlands and scrublands, to 2500 m.

Status : This species has a very large range and remains locally very common, even in disturbed habitat. Heavily hunted in some places.
