Identification
Body length of 190 cm, tail length of 105 cm, weight of 130 kg. Males have big upward and forward pointing antlers. Coloration is grey-brown to rufous with white throat, white undertail, belly and area around nose. Females are smaller.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in America, from central and south Canada to most of USA except from central-western areas, then in Central America, south to Peru. Subspecies found in most of Texas, nearby Oklahoma and Louisiana. Lives in woodlands, savannas, grasslands, forest edges, tropical rainforests.

Status : This species has a very large range and remains common to abundant in North America. Central and south American populations are declining.
