Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 25 cm. Fairly large mouth, big eyes, head profile almost convex. Coloration is silvery grey-white with broad golden-yellow band from eye to tail and thinner yellow lines on upper and lower flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western Atlantic Ocean from North US coasts to Antilles and Gulf of Mexico, south to Brazil. Occurs above sea grass beds, sand flats and patchy reefs, to 30 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and is locally abundant, such as in Florida. In other areas, it may be vulnerable to overfishing and habitat destruction.
