Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 7.2 cm. Slender and cylindrical body, large eyes, dorsal fin split in two. Coloration yellowish with bright orange throat. More or less visible bluish bands on flanks. Red dots on dorsal and caudal fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America, mostly in central and central-eastern USA, from Lake Erie and Mississippi river basin to Texas. Lives in Lives in fast flowing areas of rivers, amongst rubble and gravel.

Status : This species has a large range and occurs as many stable populations. It is thought to be locally abundant and not threatened at the moment.
