Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 14 cm. Rough skin and bony ridges behind eyes. Flat triangular head. Orange head and limbs. Rest of body black with orange longitudinal band and series of conspicuous orange knobs on back and flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia, mostly in China, in the central, western and southern parts of Yunnan province. May occur in Myanmar as well. Lives in hilly and secondary forests, near ponds and pools from 1000 to 2500 m.

Status : The species should be uplisted as it is declining because of habitat loss and overharvesting for international trade and Chinese medicine market.
