Identification
Adults can reach 65 cm in length for a weight of 400 g. Unmistakable. Black head and neck with dark blue and red skin around eyes and cheeks. Red bill, yellow eyes. Grey-blue wings, white belly. Long dark tail, bright red legs.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South-East Asia, from north and east Thailand to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. It lives mostly in forests and areas with dense undergrowth, up to 900 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is globally uncommon and its true status is hard to assess because of the species’ shy nature. Trapped for food and trade.
