Identification
Adults can reach 19 cm in length for a weight of 75 g. Long and thick silvery-grey bill with black tip. Plumage mostly olive brown to dark brown with large bright yellow area on breast. Males have bright red crown, female’s is dull yellow.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, from South-east Colombia and north-west Brazil to Ecuador and central-eastern Peru. Lives mostly in forests, including swamp and seasonally flooded forests, to 600 m.

Status : The species is fairly common in most of its range and occurs in a few protected areas. It can adapt to modifications in its habitat.
