Identification
Adults can reach up to 77 cm in length for a weight of 251 g. Extremely long tail, curved crest on head. Black head and throat with blue areas on nape, brows and cheeks. White belly, dark blue wings and tail. Unmistakable.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in central America and is endemic to North-west Mexico, occurring from south Sonora to Jalisco and Colima. Lives in arid open woodlands and thorn-forests, up to 1800 meters.

Status : The species remains locally very common in its rather small range and could be expanding to other areas. Vulnerable to habitat fragmentation.
