Identification
Body length of 33 cm, tail length of 40 cm, weight of 710 g. Unmistakable, mane-like hair tufts around head. Fur entirely golden-orange to yellow with clearer tail. Naked black face.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America and is endemic to a small portion of Atlantic forest, in Rio de Janeiro State (South-east Brazil). Lives in primary and secondary coastal lowland forest.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species was on the verge of extinction because of habitat loss and has been saved for now by conservation and captive breeding programs.
