Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 10 cm. Unmistakable. Upper half of flanks is olive-green, lower half black. Yellow head with black ring around mouth, violet ring around eyes. Fins yellow and black with thin light blue edges.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from southern Great Barrier Reef (Australia) and New Caledonia to Lord Howe Island. Usually found in deep coral reef areas, down to 40 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a fairly small range but remains common where habitat is suitable. Not impacted by collection for aquarium trade.
