Identification
The species grows to 68 cm in length. Males have ridges above eyes that ends in two fleshy horns on nose. Coloration highly variable, often turquoise-green with oblique bands. Yellow eyes. This subspecies has no spiny crest on back.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Madagascar and only occurs in northern and eastern parts of the Island, south to Central-east areas. Only found in isolated pockets of humid primary forests.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED

Status : The species has greatly suffered from collection for the animal trade and from habitat destruction, mostly for agriculture.
