Identification
Body length of 120 cm, shoulder height of 70 cm, weight of 30 kg. Unmistakable. Conspicuous dark hair tuft on top of head, males have enlarged canines protruding from mouth. Coloration uniformly dark gray-brown with white nose.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to South-west China and was previously found in North Myanmar. Species also occurs in south-central and south-east China. Lives in montane temperate humid forests up to tree line at 4750 m.

Status : This species has a fairly large range and remains locally common but hunting pressure (legal and illegal) is a major source of concern for its future.
