Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 15 cm. Laterally compressed body with protruding snout. Coloration pinkish white with thin vertical lines on flanks. Two broad black saddles on back and flanks. Back of body and fins bright yellow.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean from Cocos Keeling Islands to South Japan, east to Tuamoto Islands. Mostly found in coral-rich areas of lagoons, rarely seaward reefs, down to 30 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is almost only found where coral is abundant which could make it susceptible to habitat loss. Still common in the wild so far.
